I've written a preface for a 'Reincarnation" book. What I'd like is if people would read the preface and see if it fits the theme of "The Reincarnation." Here Goes:
Archmage:
The Reincarnation.
Preface-
The creation of Terra and the Eternal Struggle.
The Gods acknowledge nothing, for it is in that formlessness that they came to be. Sun, the Father of the Sky raged incoherently in those early times, he seemed always to be searching for a context for his being and this only started coming into view with the creation of Terra. Sun, the Father of the Sky, witnessed the creation of Nature, the Beauty of Life. He fell in love, he decided that this was the context for his existence and he burned brightly for this cause. Now, Nature, the Beauty of Life, understood that life must change if it is to contend with the entropy of Sun. She called on Magic; the Mother of All and Nothing. Magic made every moment of existence a moment of infinite possibilities, she tied all times, spaces and substances together to be tapped upon by those who are Mana Sensitive. Magic anticipated the propensity for rampant contradictions to come of her chaotic musings, so she gave birth to Science, who held her creations with universally lawful integrity.
The eons passed as ecologies rose and fell on Terra. Nature played with ecosystems, interspersing elements and searching for the perfect balance of life. Magic found the process to long and arduous and added a chemical into a species of plant called psycosibe. When an ape like creature consumed this plant, it departed from the animal experience to a realm of imagination and creativity; the human consciousness. Nature was not happy, when the humans looked at her, judged her and used her, she felt as though the humans thought themselves separate from her, as if her providence were guaranteed to last forever. Nature witnessed the humans create religion, use science, muse about magic, build civilizations and ultimately always fight for resources and power. Science started getting out of hand in these days, the human psyche was like a chalkboard for his obsession. Science became so knowledgeably obsessed that he condoned the creation of atomic and hydrogen weapons. When humans came to the brink of annihilation, Science needed a quick fix, someone who could dominate the souls of the living, strike fear and submission into their hearts for their own safety. Mr. Satan, ruler of the nine hells, came from out of the shadows in the form of a man with a wicked smile saying,
“So, it’s time again huh?”
Mr. Satan pulled strings; political assassinations, genocide, ecological catastrophes- Sun did not approve, he was always a hands-off God. He created Lucifer to act as a messenger to Mr. Satan. When Lucifer told Mr. Satan that Sun did not approve of his meddling, Mr. Satan declared war on Sun. As Mr. Satan and Sun waged a spiritual battle during the final stages of human civilization, Lucifer went to Science and bade of him,
“Science, if the humans destroy each other, there’s a chance that they will survive in another realm, however if Sun and Mr. Satan destroy each other through their warring then existence will recycle. It is now time for the humans to face their own creation- you.”
Science thought on this and finally precipitated the conditions for a nuclear conflict. It occurred. Civilization was wiped clean. Nature was traumatized at this time, so magic stepped in. She bestowed her wisdom to five people; The ArchMages, so that life would endure on Terra despite it’s irradiated and mangled ecosphere. She gave to these five control of the creative power over essential forces and elements in the universe; Eradication, Phantasm, Ascendant, Nether and Verdant Mages who would spread this knowledge genealogically. She gave to them the ability to tap into the spectral realm as well as the material realm, giving them the ability to conjure forth creatures and forces from alternate dimensions and realities.
The humans underneath the Archmages suffer absolute serfdom in warring feudal states. As the mastery of magic increases so to does the population. Hence the acquisition of land becomes the ultimate goal- to expand ones empire into another’s, to transmute empires by force. The Eternal Struggle continues on Terra as the five colors of Magic; Red, Blue, White, Black and Green battle for survival. Moon, the Light of the Night, watches on, ever observant for the right moment.
Chapter 1- Ayra Sirfre’ is agitated- a Shaman such as herself has no place in a stinking tavern in the middle of the Black Market, she’d much rather be in a sacred grove. But she had been sent here by a vision given to her by the psycosibe ceremony, something of grand importance was to occur here. Ayra looks around at the belligerent crowd of swords for hire and stray heroes and wonders,
“Importance? What importance can come of drunken fools?” Her green eyes scan the room for signs of natural kinship. She spots a potted plant next to a booth and strides towards it. As she moves the scent of flowers follows her. Leaves grow from her hair that wilt and die, falling to the ground and leaving a trail of leaves to the booth. As she sits down an audible *thump* is heard. Though she appears and moves like a human her flesh is infused with the bark of an Oak tree, taking on some of the Oaks dark grey tone and resilience. She observes the pot of ivy before her and regards it with a warm smile- suddenly a fight erupts beside her at a nearby table and a flagon of ale is hurled so it bounces into Ayra’s booth and drenches her with the foul smelling brew. Ayra stands and witnesses the drunken brawlers pounding each other senseless with ale running down her nose, she yells at them,
“Settle yourselves this instant! This is no way for living creatures to behave! Entire ecosystems can live in harmony with each other- yet you civilized aggressors can’t seem to grasp this kind of archaic memory.” The brawlers stop fighting, partly because the words coming from her mouth didn’t make an ounce of sense to them, mainly because Ayra had taken control of the Ivy’s will and wound it’s tendrils around the two of them so tightly that they could barely breathe.
(more to come!)
